Opting out
• If you do not wish to participate, no action is required, but please feel free to continue to use the nets, including with private coaching
• For those who have already paid subscriptions, but do not wish to participate in the revised programme, we will credit you the 2020 subscription upon request, otherwise this will be carried forward to cover 2021’s membership subscription
• If you wish subsequently to opt out of the revised programme after the initial 4 weeks, a 50% credit shall be available

Membership subscription
• The £95 membership fee shall cover the 10 weeks of coaching (initial 4 weeks plus 6 weeks through the summer holidays).
• To support the coaching programme, the following additional benefits shall also apply for 2020. We thank our club sponsors Amber Financial Planning for enabling us to offer this.
o Kwik cricketers will receive a Kwik cricket bat and Kwik ball as part of their subscription. For those who already have a Kwik bat, a Cumnor Bear’s T-shirt (or alternative goodie) will be available as a substitute
o U11s and U13s shall all receive their own 4¾ oz hardball, and U15s/U17s a 5½ oz one
• In addition, discounts of 10% shall be applied to any 2020 Summer Academy bookings (details of which will be communicated shortly)

How it will be run
We will operate with small groups, or ‘bubbles’, of up to 5 children plus one coach. We will spread age groups over four evenings, and structure sessions with a maximum of 20 children on site at a time. Each bubble will use a dedicated part of the ground.
The key operating constraint is that each player must only touch their own cricket ball and must maintain the 2m distancing guidance. The programme will be structured accordingly. If government/ECB advice changes we will amend the programme where we can.
Our coaches will be briefed on our safety measures and permitted training activities.

What we can provide
The current guidance is that we may exercise and train, but we may not yet have ‘matches’; therefore a mixture of cricketing drills and exercises will dominate the offer.
As no ball sharing is permitted without the use of protective gloves (which does not include batting gloves), the principle will be that no child touches a ball from another child (a player may bowl to a batsman, but no fielding by a 3rd player is currently permitted).

Timings
To accommodate all ages, we are spreading coaching sessions across four evenings as follows:

Monday 5.30-6.30pm U13s years 7 & 8 (part)

6.45-7.45pm U13s years 7 & 8 (part)

Wednesday 5.30-6.30pm U10s (year 5s)

6.45-7.45pm U11s (year 6s)

Thursday 5.00-6.25pm U15s (years 9 & 10)

6.35-8.00pm U17s (years 11 & 12)

Friday 5.00-6.00pm Kwiks (years 2 & 3)

6.15-7.15pm Kwiks (year 4s)

Operating principles
• Players must not attend if they, or anyone in their household, have Covid-19 symptoms
• Players must wash hands before arrival. We will have cleansing gel on site as well
• Parents/carers must remain on site with their children. They may either remain in their cars in the car park or on the open grounds but appropriately distanced from others
• Parents and participants must leave the site promptly at the end of their session
• In the event of any (non-life-threatening) injury, parents/carers shall be responsible for attending to their child
• Should rain stop play, parents, who must remain on site, will need to take their children home (the clubhouse will not be open to provide shelter)
• Players should only use their own kit and ball – we recommend this is marked with the child’s name (especially balls)
• Kwiks will be supplied with their own bat and ball if they do not already have one. Children should bring their own bat and ball with them each week. They should identify their kit with their name in permanent marker

Facilities upgrades – making us Covid-19 secure
• A new ‘hands free’ basin and tap have been installed on the outside wall of the clubhouse nearest the nets. This is drinking water, but may also be used for hand washing using the soap provided. Cleansing gel will also be available on site.
• The toilets will be made available, but no other part of the clubhouse will be accessible (so bring your own drinks!). Toilets will be sterilised by the club before each session, and cleaning materials will be available in each washroom.
• Paper towel dispensers will soon be installed in both the ladies and the gents washrooms: please use these and dispose in the bins provided.

Week 1 – 27th Jul pm: hardball.
Week 2 – 3rd Aug am: softball.
Week 2 – 3rd Aug pm: hardball.
Week 3 – 10th Aug am: softball.
Week 3 – 10th Aug pm: hardball.
Week 4 – 17th Aug am: softball
Week 4 – 17th Aug pm: hardball

How sessions will be run:
Until/unless guidance from the Government and the ECB changes, we will run the academy sessions on the same model as the Cumnor CC evening youth coaching programme, which allows for activity groups of up to 6, so one coach with 5 children in a quasi ‘bubble’.

Where possible we will keep the bubble groups the same each day, but we are unable to guarantee this. Should official guidance be relaxed, we may increase ratios slightly, though we will cap groups at 1 coach to 8 children.
We will continue to structure activities to safeguard social distancing, and in particular to ensure that children neither share balls nor other kit. Until the ball sharing limitation is removed (we are expecting news at the time of writing this on 7th July), and alternative mitigation measures are taken to minimise the risk of virus transmission through the use of a common ball, we will continue to operate a ‘touch own ball only’ policy.

Kit requirements
If you are a full member of Cumnor CC you will have been given a softball & bat or a hardball already (courtesy of our club sponsors, Amber Financial Planning): please bring these to the sessions.
If you are a guest member for the academies, we will supply children with exclusive use of a softball and bat or a hardball for the week if you cannot supply your own.
Hardball cricketers should have their own kit, including helmets. Note: we will not be able to lend club helmets for use in the academies, and children should not share kit.

What to bring
Wear sports clothes and trainers (need not be whites). Bring a cap, a waterbottle and a snack as required (please no nuts). Arrive with sun cream already applied.
Bring kit as defined above.
Remember to mark your kit with your own name: we have accumulated a lot of unidentified lost property over the years!

Signing in and out
We will be operating both a sign-in AND a sign-out process. Please do not leave the site until your child has been signed in, and do not take them away until you are sure they have been signed out. Registration is from 9 am for morning sessions, and 12:50 for afternoon ones.

First aid
We will contact you if there is a need for any first aid for your child or in the event of an accident. In such circumstances, we may require you to collect your child.

In the event of rain
We will be acquiring a marquee which will house half of the attendees, and the other half will be housed in the clubhouse. This will enable us to provide ‘indoor’ activities in lieu of outside play, but these will necessarily be limited. If you would prefer to collect your child (or not to attend) on extremely wet days, then we will issue a 50% credit for that session.

Week 4
If you are interested in attending week 4, please register your interest. We will advise you as soon as we can (hopefully by 27th July) if there is sufficient demand for this week, but will not confirm places before then.

Booking process and pricing
Booking is all to be completed via the myClubhouse/CumnorCC website. You will need to have an account on this site, either because you are a member or because you attended a 2019 academy or were a 2019 member. If you are not registered, apply for guest membership here.
To book, either use the link above or find the right date in the events list (if you use the event list, make sure you select the series not the individual instances, otherwise you have to repeat some of the information you must provide). Deselect any days in the week you don’t want. If you book across multiple weeks you will have to apply to each week’s series.
The price per session is £17.50 before discounts. A full week’s booking attracts a 10% discount, and full membership of Cumnor CC a further 10%. (Some of the resulting prices end up with a few decimals!).

Our juniors train in all disciplines and aspects of cricket and this enables them to represent the club in junior league and cup matches throughout the summer with some of the stronger players being nominated to attend the OCB County Cricket trials at the end of the season.

We have a very successful and constantly growing junior section and enter junior cricket teams at all age groups from Kwik Cricket right up to U17. We pride ourselves on the strength of our junior cricket and currently have County champions in two age groups (Kwiks and U15s). This is a testament not only to the strength and depth of our junior cricket but also an indication of how good our coaching is at the club. Many of our junior coaches have come through the junior ranks at the club themselves so can appreciate how important good, programmed training is and they enjoy passing on their love of cricket to the next generation.

Our older boys and girls are also encouraged get the chance to play adult league cricket on Saturdays. Our very popular SAS team (Sunday afternoon side) is a great way in to ‘adult cricket’.

The basis of all our coaching is encouragement and fun and in a welcoming and progressive atmosphere. There is lots of cricket on offer and you can choose to do as little or as much as you wish.

We are always looking for help running teams and organizing matches and assisting the junior programme so if you are able to help please contact us.

All Stars Cricket

All Stars Cricket is a highly successful initiative started in 2017 from the England and Wales Cricket Board aimed at providing children in reception to Year 3 (ages 5-8yrs) with a great first experience in cricket. The programme is delivered across England and Wales. It is a fun and active way to develop your child’s skills, and through our 10 week programme they will learn lots – as well as make new friends – in a safe and inclusive environment.

All girls and boys are welcome, and each registered child will receive a pack of cricket goodies including a cricket bat, ball, backpack, water bottle, personalised shirt and cap to keep so that they can continue their love of cricket when they go home.

Cumnor CC will be running All Stars cricket as follows:

10 week programme

Summer Academies

Cumnor Cricket Club – Summer Academy

At Cumnor CC we run Summer Cricket Academies during the school summer holidays for members and non members of the club – usually in the age range 6 to 13 Years old.

Children usually book for the full week to get the most out of the coaching, skills and match progression throughout the week.

If space is available we can organize partial week bookings or taster days for those who are new to cricket or the club.

The Academy weeks are open to both non-members and members. The cost of a weekly course is £150 per child. Bookings for less than 5 days are charged at £35 per day.

In 2020 junior members of Cumnor CC (Kwiks and above) will receive a 10% discount off a full weeks booking.

The academies run for full days from 9am to 3.45pm and children are split into groups based on age and ability.

The younger members – School Year 4 and below play Kwik cricket with a soft ball and need no special kit. The main focus is to develop key cricket skills, drills and match play in an encouraging and fun atmosphere.

Older children will benefit from all round skill development and the use of the clubs nets and grounds as well as match play.
In 2020 we will limit the number of younger attendees (years 4 and below) in week 3 so that we can increase provision for hardball coaching for years 5 and above.

All is overseen by our lead Youth Coach, his team of qualified coaches and experienced players.

Our Cricket academy dates are marketed outside the club from around Easter time each year and book up very quickly – so it is advisable to reserve spaces as early as possible to secure your preferred dates as we are limited to how many children we can take each week.

If you are a member of Cumnor Cricket Club with an account on myClubhouse/CumnorCC you can book directly by going to the ‘Links’ page of the website and clicking on ‘myClubhouse’

All others should first register for an account on our membership system above, apply for a ‘Guest Membership – junior subscription’, search events for the week required and then book the week required.

If you need further information about the Academies contact us at : cumnorcricket@gmail.com

Summer Academy weeks for 2020.

Week 2: July 27th 2020

Academy feedback

  • Both boys had a fantastic week at Cumnor and all I can ask is that you thank all the coaches for providing such a brilliant week. I had two very tired, happy boys fall into bed every night! Many thanks and we look forward to more next year!
  • Our son enjoyed the second week’s Academy and said it was good with no need of improvement.
  • Our Son had a fantastic week and absolutely loved it (as he did last year). The coaches all seem great with the kids. He is already asking if he can do it next year!
  • Only positive feedback from us. He really enjoyed every bit of it and would definitely like to come back.
  • Both boys thoroughly enjoyed last week at the academy. I don’t think there were any adverse comments at all. When we collected them each day it was obvious that they had learnt a lot and were very happy. Please give our thanks to the coaches who are obviously terrific
  • My Son loved the camp – brilliant in all ways! He will really miss his cricket when the training ends this week.  Thanks to you and all the coaches for a fab week!
  • Yes, thank you, he had a super time. I think he would happily spend week after week at cricket academy! We would be very interested in booking again for next summer.
  • The boys enjoyed the cricket academy last week. I thought it was really well organised – including the admin! – and it was nice that the Head Coach was around. Quite often on summer camps all the helpers are very young – not a problem in itself, but it is good as a parent to see that there is an older person in charge. So all in all a great experience and we look forward to next year.
  • Both of my sons enjoyed the week, and have asked to return next year.
  • He thoroughly enjoyed the course. He found the coaches enthusiastic, fun and helpful. He wants to do the course /weekly training again next year please.

Both of my sons enjoyed the week, and have asked to return next year.
